URSIT participates in the project KOSEU 

The ICT-KOSEU project aims at supporting Kosovo to obtain financing for research and development projects in the area of ICT and is funded by the FP7 ICT programme. The project will strengthen the involvement of Kosovo in the European Union’s research activities and its integration into the European Research Area by facilitating collaboration of the ICT community in Kosovo with the one in the EU and the WBC. The project begins with a public presentation of opportunities in the ICT Call 9 of FP7. The event FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) PROJECTS IN KOSOVO takes place on Thursday 12 January 2012 at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prishtina, Kosovo.

The project NATURE-SDIplus finished successfully 

The project Nature-SDIplus aimed at the implementation of the INSPIRE directive in protected areas of Europe and has developed a methodology and tools for the transformation of data according to the INSPIRE data specifications, a geoportal for access to INSPIRE compliant data of protected areas in Europe and a web based training course introducing into INSPIRE, data transformation and related technology. The European Commission, in the final review meeting, has congratulated the project partners on the good work done. In Bulgaria, URSIT has worked together with Strandja Nature Park Directorate and Vitosha Nature Park Directorate and has supported them in creating meta data and transforming their data according to the INSPIRE specifications. URSIT proposes a Training Action: “Nature Conservation and INSPIRE” 

Nature-SDIplus (http://www.nature-sdi.eu) is a Best Practice Network co-funded by the European Commission under the eContentplus Programme. The project has developed a set of e-learning courses on topics of nature conservation and INSPIRE. An Introductory Workshop will explain this course; it takes place on Monday, 16 May 2011, at 16:00 hrs in the Technical University of Sofia, Electrotechnical Faculty, Building 12, Room 12134, 1st floor, Studentski Grad, 1700 Sofia. Official Launch of the University of Sheffield programmes in Sofia 

The University of Sheffield has started Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Sofia. The Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Sofia are delivered by CITY College, International Faculty of the University of Sheffield, in cooperation with VUZF University, as a partner institution.

The programmes were officially launched on Wednesday, 23rd March 2011, at the Sheraton Hotel, with the presence of the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, Professor Paul White. They offer a unique educational opportunity to high school students, university graduates and professionals to obtain high calibre British education and a well-recognised degree while studying in Sofia.


Conference Methods and Tools for the implementation of the European Directive INSPIRE 

The conference "Methods and Tools for the implementation of the European Directive INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe)" took place in Sofia on 16 March 2011 with about one hundred participants. This very successful event informed about possibilities of realizing spatial data infrastructures and presented tools, practical experiences and results necessary for harmonizing existing geospatial data with the requirements of the European Directive INSPIRE.

Conference Methods and Tools for the implementation of the European Directive INSPIRE 

The conference "Methods and Tools for the implementation of the European Directive INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe)" will take place in Sofia on 16 March 2011.

The conference will inform about possibilities of realizing spatial data infrastructures and will present tools, practical experiences and results necessary for the realization of INSPIRE and how to align existing geospatial data with the INSPIRE requirements. It is organized in the context of the two European projects Nature-SDIplus and Humboldt, with URSIT Ltd. as the main organizer, supported by Vitosha Nature Park Directorate and Strandja Nature Park Directorate - Bulgarian partners in the Nature SDIplus Project, and the Association for Geospatial Information in South-East Europe (AGISEE).

URSIT and NETCAD conclude a collaboration agreement. 

URSIT and NETCAD have agreed to work together in order to distribute the products of NETCAD in Bulgaria and in other countries in South-East Europe and to develop solutions and projects based on NETCAD's products. For this purpose, both companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and URSIT will support NETCAD in extending their market to Bulgaria and other countries in South-East Europe.

NETCAD produces software and system solutions, compatible with world standards, capable of meeting local requirements as well. The products include GIS and GIS solutions, offering functionality for many applications in the public and other sectors. Examples are CAD, GIS and remote sensing; web based enterprise solutions; mapping, urban planning, zoning and cadastre solutions; engineering solutions. The developer and owner of NETCAD is "ULUSAL CAD ve GIS Çözümleri A.S." that offers complete Software Development services, Urban Information System (UIS-GIS) development and installation, training and consulting services. The firm has a permanent training center called "netcadkampüs" and offers products for e-learning as well.

The firm ranks among software companies in Turkey at a top position, with the software it produces and its trademark NETCAD. Market share of solutions offered in Geographical Information Systems, Cartography, Urban Region Planning, Highway Design and similar sectors reach up to 85%. It currently has over 6000 registered users and holds more than 15000 licenses. NETCAD products are taught in 462 departments of 82 Universities in Turkey and in other countries as well.

URSIT participated in the 2nd Croatian NSDI and INSPIRE Day and 6th Conference Cartography and Geoinformation 

The 2nd Croatian NSDI and INSPIRE Day and 6th Conference Cartography and Geoinformation took place from November 25 – 27, 2010 in Opatija, Croatia. This conference is organized for the second time, in order to promote knowledge on spatial data infrastructures, on national and European level, and to gather representatives of all relevant institutions, in Croatia and abroad to speed up the implementation of SDI in Croatia and to develop the geo-enabled society.

Ulrich Boes from URSIT presented views on user-centric and alternative spatial data infrastructures and how they could cooperate with a formal spatial data infrastructure such as INSPIRE.

Thinking across borders - (Re)discover ICT cooperation potential with East Europe, Central Asia and Western Balkans 

ICT 2010 is the major event of the European Commission’s FP7/ICT Programme. Within this conference, WINS-ICT and ICT-WEB-PROMS are jointly organizing a networking stand to stimulate co-operation between the EU, Eastern European & Central Asian (EECA) and Western Balkan (WB) countries. Researchers are invited to present and promote their ideas, and bilateral meetings between researchers from EU and EECA/WB countries will be held to discuss future joint research activities. The session will also host the award ceremony of the Western Balkan countries’ ICT idea competition. Six winners will be rewarded for their excellent ICT research ideas and given the opportunity to present their proposals.

This session, entitled “Thinking across borders - (Re) discover ICT cooperation potential with East Europe, Central Asia and Western Balkan countries” will be held on 28 September from 9:00 to 10:30.

Registering on the web tool will allow you to submit your profile and idea(s). The registration process will be open until 3 September 2010. After that day, you may browse through the list of registered participants and request face-to-face meetings to discuss collaboration opportunities.

Promoting Western Balkan research excellence in the fields of eHealth and Network and Service Infrastructures 

The EU-funded project ICT-WEB-PROMS has organised two workshops on 10 May 2010 in Skopje, Macedonia, for:

URSIT was one of the two main organizers of the future Internet part. More information about the workshops is presented on the web pages of the ICT-WEB-PROMS project. As a follow up to these workshops, an electronic discussion forum has been established.

Geospatial domain interest group - mailing list 

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), AGISEE and URSIT have established a mailing list on issues related to geospatial technology and standards and we invite you to join this mailing list. The purpose of this mailing list is to:

  1. inform the members of the mailing list about issues of standardisation in the geospatial and related domains;
  2. inform about new developments, innovation and standards implementation;
  3. provide a forum for the exchange of information and experience, for questions and answers.

The ultimate purpose is to create a group of people who like to work together to advance innovation and use of standards in the geospatial domain and also to present the interest and requirements of this group to international standardisation. SDI workshop Nessebar, Bulgaria 

AGISEE, the Association for Geospatial Information in South-East Europe has organized, in collaboration with URSIT, a workshop on Spatial Data Infrastructures, which took place on 16 June 2010 in Nessebar, Bulgaria, as part of the International Conference for Cartography and GIS (ICCG3). The workshop aimed at informing participants about geographic information systems and spatial data infrastructures, what are their benefits and why we need them, and went further in explaining how to build them in presenting practical examples. The workshop dealt also with the critical issues of SDIs, their costs and benefits, where and how to get training and where to find more information.
